How to take great nail art photos!

I am definitely not a professional in this category but a lot of people have asked me how I take such great  nail art photos. So I wanted to share a few of my tips and tricks that I use to help your nail art photos really pop!

  1.  This first one is probably the most important one! It's all about the lighting! I personally will wait until I can go outside to get my shots. I feel that natural light is the best light. It always helps to make the color of your polish most accurate. Sometimes, the lighting that you have in your house has a yellowy tint to it and it can actually make your shade look like a completely different color than it was intended to be! If you are using a holo polish, the sunlight gives it the absolute best effects!
  2.  Try to have a background that is not busy! Sometimes too much going on in your photo can take away from your art! I always choose a plain or solid type of background so that your eye can focus mainly on your work. I use white as much as possible because I feel it really makes the polish colors look more vibrant. If you have the option to blur your background, that gives your photo a nice touch as well.
  3.  Get up close and personal with your photo! So many details come with this last tip! You want to be as close to your design as possible without making it blurry. Get a nice, clear photo! Always make sure that your look is “finished”. By that I mean, don’t take the photo until your cuticles are polish free and any areas that need cleaned up, are! When you see the image through the camera, it shows all the flaws a lot more. A little bit of lotion or cuticle oil helps your skin to look smooth and more youthful.
  4.  Have something that is unique to you! I try to use the same ring in my photos when I can. Whenever people see it, they know it’s my design! You can add a little logo or your name, whatever you like.
  5.   Take many and pick one! I take about 20 pictures and then go through them one by one and delete the ones I don’t like. Then I narrow it down to 3 of the best, then make my choice. Or you can choose all three! 😃
Most importantly, just have fun with it!

Mickey & Minnie

Summer is almost here! Is anyone planning a Disney vacatio n? I used to take my kids there when they were younger, but my youngest son is graduating high school next week! So it's been quite a while since I have got to see Mickey or Minnie Mouse!  I don't think you are ever too old to enjoy the magic of Disney, but for today I just have to enjoy it on my nails!! The red polish in the photo is called Cherry On Top by Sinful Colors from the Kandee Johnson, Vintage Mattes collection . It's the perfect red for any Summertime adventures!!

Henna Nails

Hi everyone! I really like how these turned out! The stamping plate is 030 by Qgirl. I sponged on the colors using Purple POP and Pink-y Swear from the Salon Perfect Neon POP colors. Then the blues are Sinful Colors, Endless Blue and Broadway Nails, Waterproof. Hope you like it!!

Mood Nails

This is one of my favorite manis of all time!  I could have taken photos of these all day because they are ever changing. This was my first time using the thermochromic liquid from Major Digit. I started with a gel polish base coat. That gets cured and then I applied two coats of the Opi Hello Kitty Black gel polish. After curing that, I applied a coat of the thermochromic liquid. It comes out as a beige color and when it completely air dries on its own, it appears as a matte coat on top of the black. Then you just apply a clear gel polish, cure it and the fun is ready to start! It color shifts in every color of the rainbow!  This was a 1 gram size container. It was enough to do all 10 nails with a little left over.  I have got to say that I really had a lot of fun with this one! I was constantly touching them and watching all the colors constantly transform before your eyes! Everywhere I went I got compliments!
